Kelis Back To Headline Lovebox

[dropcap]T[/dropcap]he outspoken music and style superstar that is Kelis is back in our lives this summer, with a return to Lovebox festival in London’s Victoria Park in June, and an album and fashion line rumoured to be released, errr, any time now. It’s been two years since Kelis’s last album Flesh Tone was released, presenting a move away from R&B into dance music, with Ibiza anthems such as David Guetta collaboration ‘Acapella’, see tribal-esque video below. Never one to shy away from outlandish imagery, Kelis appeared as a half lion, half silver haired woman in the Flesh Tone artwork, but was pulling colourful, elaborate and raunchy looks out of the bag long before Gaga and Minaj. Becoming a mum hasn’t hindered the wardrobe selections; in a show at London’s Koko last year she performed in a super sheer cat suit with little else but nipple stars to cover her enviable post-baby body. Her and rapper Nas appeared to be one the coolest couples of the celeb world; after a chance meeting at a P-Diddy party, Nas drunkenly admitted that for some time he’d wanted to marry Kelis, and three years on she walked down the aisle with scarlet red hair and a mint green, gold appliqued dress. Sadly the marriage hit the rocks and there are recent reports Nas has said divorce from the mother of his child has proved ‘Love is a beast’. Maybe Kelis’s next album will bring more of the post break-up angst of the ‘I Hate You So Much’ days. Kelis plays Lovebox Saturday 16th June
