[dropcap]A[/dropcap]fter biding their time as regular fixtures on London’s live music scene and performing at the likes of Glastonbury, 1914s are to release their energetic debut single. Titled ‘Never Before’, the track was recently playlisted on Amazing Radio and BBC Radio 6 Music, infusing dance, rock and electronic beats with an in-your-face melody. Never Before’s striking identikit video was shot in the grand ballroom of a former old-peoples home and features moving images of the band in various form of costume and dramatic make-up, sliced up and put back together again to an eery effect, see below. Described as ‘Crystal Castles meets Yeah Yeah Yeahs and The Kills’, Jimi and Josephyn double up on instruments; with Jimi’s rip-roaring bass and lead guitar and Josephyn’s warped keyboards and buzzing synths alongside lead singer Shay’s powerful ultra-alto vocals. The creative trio also host ‘COUP!’, a regular East London indoor music and art festival that allows artists to come together in a frenzy of vintage clothes, cakes and jewellery stalls, alongside performing bands, poets and DJ’s. The next one is in place of the missing Glastonbury on Saturday 23rdJune at Dalston’s Hysteria. See our photos of 1914s out to play in Stoke Newington…
Never Before will be launched at Camden’s Lock Tavern, Wednesday 23rd May. The single will be available as a self-released download.
