Beth Ditto’s eerie green snake eyes, disjointed giant hand and cloak of velvety black hair provide a startling cover for Gossip’s forth coming “grown up and sad” album ‘A Joyful Noise’. With Mark Ronson and pop genius Brian Higgins (Kylie Minogue, Girls Aloud) behind production, fans will be treated to a reinvention of Gossip’s raw rocking-out passion and danceable beats. It’s been an almost 3 year wait since the band’s last album Music For Men, but in the mean time irresistibly bold front woman Beth Ditto has reminded the fashion industry that you can be big AND fabulous; featuring naked on the cover of the launch issue of fashion bible Love, designing two hit plus-sized ranges for Evans, walking the catwalk for Jean-Paul Gaultier at Paris Fashion Week and giving Vogue her straight up style tips, “Fat people look fab in Miu Miu. They just do.” To add another string to Ditto’s fashion bow, she launches a new makeup collaboration with MAC this summer. NME have dubbed Gossip “The greatest punk rock’n’roll disco soul band on the planet”, and after gaining a reputation as one of the best live shows around at Coachella, Glastonbury and the like, they’ve announced a second London headline show with tickets on sale now for London’s XOYO May 15th and Shepherd’s Bush Empire, July 5th. The first single from the new album is pop power ballad ‘Perfect World’, with Ditto sounding a bit like a young Patti Smith. It’s not released till May 6th but treat yourself to a listen below.
